Does BMW copy other brands?

Recently, the BMW design has been impressive with its progressiveness, but there is an element in it that was previously found on other Citroen cars.

For the first time, Citroen showed the world the solution to the design of headlights in the form of upper thin lines and a lower full-fledged headlight in 2014 on the example of the C4 Picasso model.

The decision at the time was quite successful and the car even won the Good Design Awards in its category. However, now we can also see this design, but not by any means on Citroen cars. BMW first used this design in April 2022 on the 7 Series model.

Later, this solution was also used on the X7 and BMW XM. But, unfortunately, now we can observe another interesting coincidence in design, this time already with by other automakers, namely Skoda and Kia.  In 2024, BMW presented a new generation of the 5 Series, the design of which has many interesting details that we already had the opportunity to observe on the Skoda Octavia of 2023.

The review of the design should start with the fact that BMW made headlights of a more chopped shape, which resembles the headlights on the Octavia, and BMW also combined two nostrils, which also resembles Skoda and a little Kia Sportage 2021.

Also, the 5 series is similar to the Skoda Enyag:

Conclusion: The current design of BMW impresses with its progressiveness and recognizability, however, not all elements of its design are as new and unique as it might seem. There are also elements that are borrowed and have already been used on other cars.
