Loss of DNA Cupra Formentor and Leon in restyle 2024

Recently, Cupra presented a restyling of its two models, Leon and Formentor, the design of which has lost its DNA. The front of the new Cupra Formentor has completely changed and all the new design solutions have only worsened the car. Formentor completely got rid of the upper radiator grill, which was an invariable part of the design of the old generation. Instead, there is now a thin stripe that only spoils everything. The lower radiator grill, on the contrary, was stretched up, which also did not lead to anything good. Beautiful round fog lights have been replaced with less controversial triangular ones. And if you sum it all up, then the front is not at all suitable for a car. When you see this design, you get the impression that the car has been in an accident, and the owner decided to repair it himself.

Also recently, MG presented a mock-up of the ZS crossover design, the front end of which is very reminiscent of the new Cupra Formentor (the image above).

As for the rear part of the Cupra Formentor, there are fewer changes, they also ruined the car. The side air intakes are actually blind and do not serve any useful function (for example, cooling the brake discs). The rear lightbar is now merged with the icon – this solution is used on new Volkswagen models and is not successful (it looks very Chinese).

Cupra Leon 2024 cannot please us with a beautiful design with hereditary elements. It looks like when it was created, the designers simply took the Volkswagen Scirocco and updated it a little… for the worse! Volkswagen Scirocco looks sportier, harmonious, and also has a more logical and understandable design…

Although Cupra Leon 2024 looks more attractive than a new Formentor, its design cannot be called successful.

At the rear, Leon got the same repulsive lightbar as the Formentor.

Analyzing these designs, one may wonder how Cupra is from this masterpiece of 2019:

they managed to get to the current design!? Global changes in Cupra’s design began in 2020, when the brand separated from Seat. It was that Cupra created a unique and inimitable Formentor, but the designers made the mistake of changing the direction in the new model of Leon 2024 – it has lost DNA! Further, the Сupra showed the world Tavascan, which would have better prospects than boring Born if it were not for the electrical powertrain and production in China. Tavascan had to get the same engine heart as Formentor VZ5 inherited from Audi (2.5 R5 TFSI).

Since the introduction of Tavascan, Cupra has begun to lose the DNA of its cars and has reached the point where we now have the opportunity to observe.

Conclusion: Cupra is not an old and recognizable brand that everyone knows, so they need to keep their design for recognition, as BMW does, for example!
