The story of the Lotus Esprit is a fascinating journey from a daring sketch on a piece of paper to the status of an icon of world cinema. It all started with a chance meeting between Colin Chapman and designer Giorgetto Giugiaro, who embodied the radical concept of “folded paper” in metal and fiberglass.
When the prototype was first shown at an exhibition, it looked so futuristic that many doubted it would ever reach production.
Lotus PR then pulled a clever move. They left the car без any badges near the producers of ‘Bondiana’. It worked. The car became the star of The Spy Who Loved Me, where it transformed into a submarine and became instantly iconic.
For nearly thirty years, the Esprit stayed true to its philosophy of lightness. It proved that handling and aerodynamics matter more than raw power. The design evolved from sharp 1970s lines to smoother 1990s curves. Still, it kept its rebellious character.
The Esprit became a symbol of engineering over prestige. It showed that bold ideas and consistency can turn a small British brand into a lasting legend.

New 2026 Lotus Esprit

The new Lotus Esprit 2026 was presented in several versions. The first image shows a design based on the Emira. It uses styling cues from the original Esprit, such as retractable headlights and a distinctive air intake. The rear remains mostly unchanged. Only square-shaped taillights were added.

Picture 3 shows a restomod that looks unique and unrepeatable, having its own style but imitating the Esprit. The LED quads give the car a unique style and retro design. The rear part looks as simple as possible. Imitating the old Lotus, but the large light bar still shows us that the car is modern.

In the fifth image, we see a kind of golden mean. But with a more aggressive approach, which enhances its sportiness and charm. It is, more or less, a realistic design concept that still preserves the uniqueness of the original Esprit.

The rear of the new Esprit has real non-futuristic adequate headlights and a design that has a unique style.
