New Maserati Shamal 2025: Where Heritage Meets Innovation

https://www.caranddriver.com/

In 1989, Maserati decided to remind the world that it hadn’t said its final word. Enter the Shamal — wild, sharp, and dangerous, like the desert wind it was named after. This wasn’t just a car — it was a statement. A challenge. To convention, to boredom, to the reign of BMWs and Mercs across European roads.

It was penned by Marcello Gandini — yes, the mastermind behind the Lamborghini Countach. And if you look closely, you’ll see the signature touches: sharp lines, wedge profile, flared arches. But the real kicker? Those bold triangular C-pillars with their black plastic inserts. No Maserati had ever looked like this before. This was pure Gandini madness, and it worked.

The Shamal looked like it was ready to punch through the night. That matte black strip running over the hood, roof, and rear deck gave it a cyberpunk supercar vibe long before that was a thing. And it wasn’t for show — it matched the car’s raw personality.

It arrived at the edge of an era. Old-school Maserati was fading, the Fiat-controlled future hadn’t fully begun. The Shamal was the bridge — a last breath of hand-built, analogue rebellion before the clean lines of corporate order took over. Each car was assembled by hand, built like a one-off sculpture. Only 369 were ever made — and every single one carried the spirit of defiance.

This was a Maserati that didn’t ask for approval. It just appeared, roared past — and vanished. And if you happened to see one… consider yourself lucky.

New Maserati Shamal 2025

1

Today we have the opportunity to observe a unique design performance from AI and this is probably the best car that has never existed, does not exist and will not exist, but it is a pity. The new Maserati Shamal 2025 received an aggressive and more chopped design than other modern Maserati cars such as the Gran Turismo and Ghibli. This is precisely its uniqueness in that it does not look like anything unique. AI also added pixel headlights to versions 3, 4, 5 and 6 that add both futuristic and old-fashioned, which is cool. And version 6 is generally a super bomb with a cool design and 80s charm.

The back of the new Maserati Shamal has less innovation and uniqueness than before. It is more restrained and reminds us of the original Maserati models that are currently in production. However, the 9th picture is a masterpiece that if you combine it with the 6th one, you get a perfect restomod Maserati Shamal.

AI also gave us two rather minimalistic versions of the interior of the new Maserati Shamal. In the first, we have just a display and a gear selector, and in the second, we have a version without a screen and with physical buttons.
