New Ford Fiesta 2026: why do we even have to revive it?

Fiesta showed up as a tiny, cheap European car. Light, economical, reliable. People bought it instantly. That’s how the whole story kicked off.

Gen 1 & 2 (1976–1989)
The square-box era. Looked like someone drew it with a ruler. Still a hit because it was cheap, tough, and easy to live with.
Gen 2 smoothed out the rough edges a bit and gave the car more comfort and better engines.

Gen 3 (1989–1997)
This is when Fiesta finally stopped looking like a shoebox. New fuel-injected engines, better safety, more features. It became a solid “first car” for young drivers. Cheap but not embarrassing.

Gen 4 (1995–2002)
More rounded, more modern. A proper small city car with decent trims and engines. Fiesta started acting like a real competitor, not just “the cheap option.”

Gen 5 (2002–2008)
This one felt serious. Better safety, better chassis, better everything. A lot of people bought it as their starter car and kept it forever because it simply refused to die.

Gen 6 (2008–2017)
Peak Fiesta. Sharp design, awesome handling, lightweight feel.
And the Fiesta ST… that thing was a tiny rocket. Drivers loved it because it offered ridiculous fun for very little money.

Gen 7 (2017–2023)
More modern tech, screens, driver assists, and a cleaner design.
ST remained a beast: strong engine, crazy handling, basically a go-kart with number plates.

The End (2023)
Fiesta was discontinued because people ditched small hatchbacks for crossovers. Simple market logic, even if it sucks.

What remains
Over 47 years, Fiesta became the “first car” for millions. Cheap to run, fun to drive, small but full of character.
It never tried to be premium, it just did its job better than anyone expected.
